Sanetomo had a vague presentimentof peril. In Korea's case, however, the fiction proved more tenacious, sincethe peninsula furnished easy access to Manchuria, the cradle of theManchu dynasty. The incident was typical of the conditions existing in manyof the barons' households, and the history of Japan furnishesnumerous parallel cases. But though they deliberated, they did not decide.
